Welcome to the 2024

Interdisciplinary

Symposium

About the Symposium

The Interdisciplinary Symposium is a student-organized event cultivated to celebrate learning and the sharing of ideas. Symposium provides a comfortable and inviting space that is conducive to sharing individual ideas and research. This event highlights the academic and creative work of both undergraduate and graduate students, celebrating discourse and discovery.

This is an interdisciplinary event: from astrophysics to medieval literature. We welcome presentations on all topics and attendees from all disciplines.

We hope you'll join us and be a part of it all: presenting your work, attending panels, enjoying fascinating keynote presentations by leading scholars, participating in the discussion, and basking in the company of peers, faculty, and colleagues.

Interesting topics from past Symposiums have included

  • Murals in the crossroads district of Kansas City

  • Galaxy quenching

  • COVID-19’s impact on high school band

  • Multimedia poetry readings

  • Alumni career panels

As the 2024 Interdisciplinary Symposium Committee, we are excited to continue carrying on the tradition celebrating interdisciplinary work and fostering a love for learning.

We look forward to seeing you at Diastole this year on Saturday, April 20th as either a presenter or attendee.

If you have any questions, please email the Symposium Committee at umkcsymposium@gmail.com.

This event is sponsored by the UMKC English Department, Sigma Tau Delta, the English Graduate Student Association, and the Medieval Studies Society. The Interdisciplinary Symposium has been occurring for more than 20 years.
